сверх восьми over eight Soslan ba ma wælastæn xætun bajdædta Сослан же стал бродить сверх восьми (дней) And Soslan started to wander over eight (days) Сложение из и astæn, дат. падежа от ast восемь (upari-ašta). Выражение возникло в связи с тем, что восемь считалось круглой цифрой. Поэтому и число девять зовется farast (pāra-ašta) за восемью. Отсюда и выражение æstæmæj-astmæ от восьмого до восьми (дней) о продолжительности охоты и т. п. Compound of and astæn, dative of ast eight (upari-ašta). The expression developed because eight was considered a round number. For the same reason the number nine is called farast (pāra-ašta) behind eight. Hence the expression æstæmæj-astmæ from the eighth up to eight (days) on the duration of hunting etc.
