(from Persian) āzār offense, oppression, груз. zari horror etc. Considering the spread of āzār in Turkic and Caucasian languages, it is difficult to agree with Bailey, who believes to have been derived inside Ossetic from the root zar- via the preverb a- ( 1955, pp. 56—57; 1960 XXIII 35, fn. 5; Asia Major 1964 XI 12).
