According to the semantics, perhaps, this word must be separated from rod and traced back not to waišā-, but to wāstryа- → waistrya- from wāstra- grass. See xos | xwasæ (hu-wāstra-) hay. The identity with isn't, however, excluded. Cf. etymologically and for the development of the meaning virga rod → strip. — From Ossetic is borrowed, probably, ös laying of a three sheaves ( 333), äs suslon (several sheaves set for drying with ears up).
