Понятен соблазн включить осетинский глагол в эту же группу. Однако на этом пути встают серьезные фонетические трудности: отсутствие в осетинском -n-, разное качество гласных.Только xod- смеяться кажется совсем близким к осетинскому. Но эта близость иллюзорная. Анализ спрягаемых форм показывает, что и здесь носовой согласный в прошлом был (см.: 256). Вс. Миллер (ОЭ II 73) решился все-таки, хотя и без уверенности, сблизить xūdyn с xandīdan и, далее, с svad-. Позднее ( 61) он снабдил глагол xūdyn пометой: Etymologie fehlt. Hübschmann (Oss. 69) также под вопросом привлекает svad- испытывать удовольствие, вкушать (этот глагол ясно распознается в axodynaxwadun отведывать). Gershevitch (§1114, Addenda), подчеркивая значение насмехаться в ос. xūdyn, привлекает базу *xod-, которая выделяется в согд. хр. pcxwd ywny противного вида, pacxwδ-, prxwt оскорбляет, parxudan насмешка, издевка (Henning, AI XIV 490808. — Магу Boyce, IXa 73). Сюда же, в этом случае, nikuhīdan упрекать, порицать, осуждать, nikuhīda достойный осуждения, неблаговидный (= xūdīnag), kuditi порицать, про-кудитъ подшутить, сыграть злую шутку, окудник шутник, κυδάζω браню, порицаю, κυδαγχόμενα достойное порицания. Индоевропейская база — kud- ( 595). Lewy ( LII 310) сближал oc. xūdyn с šiditi поносить, насмехаться, szyd насмешка, издевка. Эта этимология совместима с вышеприведенной. Придется только допустить, что индоевропейский прототип имел два варианта — kud- и ḱud-, что в принципе вполне возможно. — Имея в виду семантику осетинского глагола в полном ее объеме, следует думать, быть может, о контаминации обеих иранских баз, *xand- и *xud-. Обращает на себя внимание форма прош. причастия xūdt. Из xudta- ожидали бы x˳yst; ср. ysmūdyn : ysmyst нюхать, xsnūdyn : xsnyst сучить. — См. еще , , , , , , . The base xand- laugh is widely represented in Iranian languages: xandīdan, хапdаɣ, kandag, xand-, xand-, xand- (ɣnt-), khan, xandəl, kānd-, xond etc. The temptation to include the Ossetian verb in the same group is understandable. However, serious phonetic difficulties arise on this path: the absence of -n- in Ossetic, the different quality of vowels.Only xod- laugh seems very close to the Ossetic. But this closeness is illusory. An analysis of conjugated forms shows that here, too, the nasal consonant was in the past (see: 256). Ws. Miller (OÈ II 73) nevertheless decided, although without certainty, to bring xūdyn closer to xandīdan and further to svad-. Later ( 61) he marked the verb xūdyn: Etymologie fehlt. Hübschmann (Oss. 69) also mentions svad- enjoy, eat questionably (this verb is clearly attested in axodynaxwadun taste). Gershevitch (§1114, Addenda), emphasizing the meaning mock in Ossetic xūdyn, mentions the stem *xod-, which is found in pcxwd ywny nasty looking, pacxwδ-, prxwt insults, parxudan mockery, cruel joke (Henning, AI XIV 490808. — Магу Boyce, IXa 73). Also here in this case nikuhīdan blame, judge, condemn, nikuhīda reprehensible, unplausible (= xūdīnag), kuditi judge, pro-kudit’ mock, play a cruel joke, okudnik joker, κυδάζω I reproach, I judge, κυδαγχόμενα reprehensible. Indo-European stem — kud- ( 595). Lewy ( LII 310) brings Ossetic xūdyn with šiditi abuse, mock, szyd mockery, mickey. This etymology is compatible with the above. We will only have to admit that the Indo-European prototype had two options — kud- and ḱud-, which is in principle quite possible. — Bearing in mind the semantics of the Ossetic verb in its entirety, one should perhaps think about the contamination of both Iranian bases, *xand- and *xud-. Attention is drawn to the form of the past participle xūdt. From xudta- one would expect x˳yst; cf. ysmūdyn : ysmyst sniff, xsnūdyn : xsnyst twist. — See also , , , , , , .
