Восходит к haθya- истинный (как acc дикая утка из āti-, wærcc перепел из vartika-). На иранской почве, за пределами древнеиранских языков, слово представлено слабо; ср. haṭhṭha (из haθya-) правда, истина (с геминацией ṭhṭh, как в осетинском; ср., впрочем: 8—9); на древнеарийской почве ср. haiθya-, hašiya-, satyá- истинный, истина (один из важнейших моральных терминов древних индийцев). С наращением излюбленного суффикса -æg слово дано в виде общераспространенного æcæg истинный. Эту же основу усматриваем в æv-acc-æg-æn вероятно, æv-æʒ-i id., æv-æʒ-a по правде говоря; см. эти слова, а также æcægælon чужой. Goes back to haθya- true (like acc wild duck from āti-, wærcc quail from vartika-). Within Iranian, outside of Old Iranian, the word is poorly represented; cf. haṭhṭha (from haθya-) true, truth (with gemination ṭhṭh like on Ossetic; however, consider 8—9); in Old Indo-Iranian cf. haiθya-, hašiya-, satyá- true, truth (one of the most important moral terms of the ancient Indians). With the addition of the ubiquitous suffix -æg, the word commonly appears as æcæg true. The same stem is attested in æv-acc-æg-æn probably, æv-æʒ-i id., æv-æʒ-a frankly; see these items, and also æcægælon alien.
