В последнем случае ср. еще ywd-, ywdy-se donner de la peine ( 65, 87). Третья возможность — связать с av- помогать, заботиться, стараться. Ос. было бы в этом случае вторичным образованием от прош. причастия ūta-, как æfsadyn, ævzīdyn; ср. ūti Förderung, Unterstützung, Stärkung ( 270). И с формальной, и с семантической стороны все три этимологии приемлемы. — Ср. aūdyn. Ws. Miller first connected this to ūd od soul ( 61. — See also Bailey, 1960, p. 71), later with yaod-, yudhyati struggle ( 21, p. 332. — See also 167, footnote; 1952 XIV 487, footnote 2). In the latter case cf. as well ywd-, ywdy- se donner de la peine ( 65, 87). The third possibility is to connect this to av- help, care, try. Os. would then be a secondary derivative of ūta-, like æfsadyn, ævzīdyn; cf. ūti Förderung, Unterstützung, Stärkung ( 270). Both from the formal and the semantic side all three etymologies are acceptable. — Cf. aūdyn.
