The initial х-, is apparently prothetic, as in some other names for trees: , xsæmæræg, . In this case -syncʼу-sincʼæ is identical with synʒsinʒæ thorn: the name may have originally been applied (and is sometimes applied now) to prickly plum or blackthorn, Prunus spinosa; æxsincʼæ refers to sinʒæ, as to sibulʒæ. Ejective cʼ is expressive, as if it is conveying a feeling of sour. — Bailey (Saka Dictionary 26) brings æxsyncʼy closer with æxsīn dark blue (blue fruit).
