Daredzanian legends, like the name Amiran, were acquired by the Ossetians via the Georgians, cf. Amirani, epic hero. Most of the Georgian variants go back to the medieval Georgian novel Amiran-Darejaniani by Moses of Khoni (Mose Khoneli). From the etymological point of view, N. Ya. Marr’s explanation remains in force, according to which Amiran-Dareǯan is a reanalysis of amir-andare-jehān prince in the world (N. Ya. Marr.
