The root gu- combined with the preverb a-; cf. gū- (jū-, zū-), gū- (jū-) go, hurry (А. Fгеimаn, Rocznik Orjentalistyczny, 3, 1927, p. 161).The comparison with gav crying is less convincing, cf. . Ossetic displays here the older unpalatalized form gu-, cf. -gu in the second part of compounds: vanar-gu wandering through the woods, agre-gu going at the head etc. The same stem combined with the preverb īv-ev- is found in another one Ossetic verb: ivǧ˳yjynevǧujun escape q. v. Also related: zydzud greedy.
