( II 264–266).На иранской почве сюда относятся также слова со значением уподобляться: mānistan быть похожим, походить, mānā подобный, mānāk id., mēnāk (mynʼk), mānaa подобие, (из иран.?) menāk подобный, как; ср. напоминать в значении быть похожим. Значение показывать, учить следует рассматривать как каузативное в отношении медиального помнить: следовательно, (с исторически долгим ā в основе) — заставлять помнить → учить; в этом отношении к осетинскому близки monere и mahnen. На какие-то следы магической семантики этого слова указывает название чудесной чаши в нартовском эпосе: Amongæ, Ac-amongæ, Waci-amongæ-, ср. также amond счастье; может быть, сюда же названия духов: , . An old fusion of the preverb a- with the stem man- (Indo-European base men-); the various meanings of the latter form in Indo-European languages can be united by the general concept of displaying spiritual activity; cf. āmānay- show ( 16), ni-mānī (nmʼny) repentance, mān- (mʼn-) spirit, mēn- (myn-) think, mán- think, venerate, man- think, reckon, consider, man- consider, venerate, μιμνήσκω I remind, μένος spirit, mens spirit, moneo I remind, I instruct, munan, meinen consider, think, mahnen admonish, persuade, mnitʼ, po-mnitʼ remember, manyti think etc. ( II 264–266).In Iranian languages, the following words with the meaning become similar are also related: mānistan resemble, look like, mānā similar, mānāk id., mēnāk (mynʼk), mānaa similarity, (from Iranian?) menāk similar, like; cf. napominatʼ remind in the sense resemble. The meaning show, learn should be seen as causative with respect to the middle voice remember: therefore, (historically with the long vowel ā in the stem) is cause to remember → teach; in this respect, monere and mahnen are close to Ossetic. Some traces of the magical semantics of this word are indicated by the name of the miraculous cup in the Nart epics: Amongæ, Ac-amongæ, Waci-amongæ-, cf. also amond happiness; the names of spirits may also be related: , . The purely emotional sense of the stem man- is found in the words , , mondi; cf. also imonaw gentle, fæsmon remorse, ævælmon without trouble.Ws. Miller. Gr. 60. — 172.
