An old fusion of the preverb a- with the stem rag, with the addition of the inchoative s (rag + s → ræxs); possibly also related to ārāxs- (ʼʼrʼɣs-), whose meaning is not clear (ask for support? See: 202 ff.). Another regular variety of the same root, raz-, is found in arazyn make (see); preserves the medial semantics of the common Indo-Iranian stem rag- (raz-): to be arranged, to correspond; cf. aræzyn be made, produced (also with medial semantics). By derivation, corresponds to like (← æmbærxs-), to . In South Ossetic dialects, this verb is used without the preverb a-: ne ’ræxsy does not match, does not go as planned, does not correspond
