Together with other numerals, it is associated with the original Iranian inventory: ašt, waṣ̌t, at, at, hašt, hašt, ašt, ašt, ašt (ʼšt), haṣṭa, ašta-, aṣṭā̌-, ὀκτώ, octo, okt, acht etc. There is reason to believe that the number eight was used in Ossetic as the counting basis along with ten; on this see the word farast nine.
