From kaǯi demon; cf. kaǯ demon and ‘man of courage’ in the modern language. There is a story of Movses Khorenatsi about Artavazd who is captured by kaʒī and chained to a rock by them (Emin’s translation, 1893, p. 108, 258). Kaʒī play a significant role in Sh. Rustaveli’s poem “The Knight in the Panther's Skin”; they are depicted as disembodied („uxorco“) creatures, skilled in sorcery and military tricks; they kidnap the heroine Nestan-Daredzhan to their country Kaǯeti; Tariel and his friends seize the Kajeti fortress and free Nestan.
