Possibly relates to the Scythian-European isoglosses and is close to the Germanic group: narve, German (Bavarian) närw door bracket, in dialects also bolt, cross bar, narva cross bar or board, plank for fastening boards (. — II 198). The original value meaning was probably notched bar; cf. Narbe, narwa notch.
