Stock палка при stugti стоять стоймя, торчать вверх, stick палка — to stick up торчать, ставить торчком. — Название Крестового перевала по Военно-Грузинской дороге Qīl идет из Qeli (Вахушти). Probably an Iranian word. The old fusion av-ǧīl pole of cult purpose ( 203) speaks in favour of this. Cf. gil, gili branch, stem ( Abt. III, Bd. IV, p. 286), gilka branch, stick, gilja wack-bat, gilja lanky, fat guy(), kīl peg, wedge. For the correspondances of the meanings pole — stand up straight cf. Stock stick and stugti stand up straight, stick up, stick — to stick up. — The name of the Cross Pass along the Georgian Military Road Qīl comes from Qeli (Vakhushti).
