В доступных нам источниках мы такого слова не встретили (ср. buǧow кандалы, оковы). Замена n → m могла быть результатом контаминации с арабским (вошедшим и в некоторые тюркские языки) qadam нога. Насколько можно судить, qadana на тюркской почве не этимологизируется. Возможно, что первоисточник — qaidāni (двойств. ч. от qaid) узы, оковы, откуда и кайданы и, далее, кандалы ( I 517). Старым заимствованием из семитского является, быть может, и catena, чаще мн. ч. catenae, catena, cadena, cadenas цепи, оковы. From qadana shackles ( II 310, with a link to: Scheich Suleiman. Tschagataich-Osmanisches Worterbuch. Constantinopel, 1298 [hijras]), qadane wooden leg shackles ( 677. Ws. Miller (OE II 115) considers the direct source to be qadamá. We have not found such a word in the sources available to us (cf. buǧow shackles, chains). The substitution n → m could be the result of contamination with Arabic (included in some Turkic languages) qadam foot. As far as can be judged, qadana is not etymologized using the Turkic background. It is possible that the original source is qaidāni (dual from qaid) bonds, chains, where kajdany and kandaly ( I 517) come from. The old borrowing from Semitic may be catena, more often plural form catenae, catena, cadena, cadenas chains, fetters.
