The word goes up to sākāna-, from sākā- fork, branch, horn, deer horn, deer; see , saǵīl, , . Cf. the words with the similar derivation pattern: wīsoj | wesojnæ broomstick from vaišāna-, zængoj | zængojnæ gaiter from zangana- etc. Cf. the words with the similar etymology and semantics: sakas, šãke fork (along with šakà deer horns), rassoxa fork, fork with two horns (). See XII 340 about the semantic development in the connection with the realities. — The analogous semantics has : cervus 1. deer, 2. fork-shaped slingshots. The slightly different semantic development has sak comb, hair brush alongside with (borrowed from Persian?) šāx horn ( 73).
