Bartholomae ( 95) analyzes aiwištara- as aiwi-iš-tar- from aes- own and translates the expression daiŋ́huš aiwištara- as owner of the country ( 683). Nothing prevents, however, to analyze aiwi-stara- and translate the mentioned expression as the devastator of the country: it is about hostile tribes created by the evil spirit Ahriman for the destruction of the righteous Zoroastrian tribes (V. I. 17, 19). — A reconstructed stara- razzia is recognized in tāṛ gang of robbers, band, spoil ( 84), gang of robbers, theft ( 210) and may be in tārāt, tārāǰ, tālā robbery (see tælæt), if we assume the presence of s-mobile (as in (s)tāyu- thief). It is possible that this whole group is connected by the root with (s)tāyu- predator, thief (see ). Outside of the Iranian languages, the German languages can be noticed here: stela, stelan, stehlen steal, kidnap, stāla kidnapping, robbery etc.; further στερέω I take it away, I deprive. Maybe also here (with expressive variants) styritʼ, styuritʼ, styalitʼ steal, rob. 253 ff., fn. ( aiwištara). — Morgenstierne (in the letter of 10 XI 1965) ( στερέω).
