The Indo-European term of kinship with the meaning brother of the husband is reconstructed in the form daiwer-, which in Iranian context should be daiwar-. However, the Iranian facts lead to the conclusion about the parallel existence of the variant θaiwar- from dhaiwar-, which gave in some languages forms with initial t-, s-, h-: bh sometimes resulted in l in Iranian ( nāfa- navel, waf- weave, Ossetic rfyg eyebrow), similarly, dh → θ; cf. uruθəm height next to rodhati, ərəθwə̄ng fair (pl.) next to rādhas ( I 1, § 23b). Ossetic tīw | tew, tēw, ti, sew, sewir, siwir, hiv, hīwar, hewar, ewar. lēwər can go back both to θaiwar-, and to daiwar-. Outside of Iranian languages: devar-, děverь, dever', dieverìs, levir (d → l, as in Pashto), δαήρ, tʼaigr., p. 331. — 83.
