The meaning thread, although somewhat blurred in modern language, should be considered original. This is especially supported by the compounds mentioned above, as well as borrowed from Ossetic tajthread. The recoverable tāka- should probably be associated with tek- weave, spin ( 1058). Cf. tā thread, hair (that should be separated from ta fold, cf. Ossetic daǧ fold), tāk branch, strand, tāk vine, tōǰ branch, rәndag strap, leather belt ( II 537). — II 200 traces back to rāna-tāka- (for the first part, cf. Ossetic ron belt); in New Indian languages: tāgā, tago, dhagga thread (Oranskij. Indijskij dialekt gruppy parja [An Indian dialect of the Parya group]. Moscow, 1963, pp. 24—25). It is presumably recognized in σακυνδάκη Scythian clothes (Hesychius) — sak-γun-tak textile (tak-) made of deer (sak-) wool (γun-); cf. Ossetic , . Outside the Aryan, cf. tāht, Docht cord, wick. Of Iranian origin are tʼakʼ string of pearls ( 250, note 2). — Of Ossetic origin are tʼakʼthread (-g- → j, like in sag → sajdeer etc.), taka trace, line, tagә coastal forest belt, tagә sū = Difor tagi don river near the forest; in toponymy: Uzun tagә sū River near a long forest strip, Künnüm tagә sū Southern copse (Kokov, Šaxmurzaev. Balkarskij toponimičeskij slovarʼ [Balkar toponymic dictionary]. Nalčik, 1970, pp. 80, 128. — The authors erroneously translate as tagә ledge). — Cf. ændax thread. 180, 184.
