Поэтому tox предполагает в прошлом tomx или tonx из tamx- или tanx, а последние, с учетом возможной метатезы, могут восходить к taxma- или taxna- от базы tak- быстро двигаться, бежать, устремляться, бросаться и т. п., представленной в tæxyn лететь, tæx стремительный, taǧd быстрый (борьба — движение). Ср. taxma- могучий, отважный и пр., taxma- в именах Taxmaspāda-, Čissataxma-, tahm храбрый, воинственный (также в именах Tahmasp, Arustahm, Aturtahm, Hutahm). Ожидаемая для дигорского более ранняя форма реально существует, но в несколько ином значении — (общественная) активность: adæmi tonxi cæwun участвовать в потоке народной жизни участвовать в потоке народной жизни . Если наша этимология верна, то между tox борьба и toxun воевать, tuxæn му́ка нет никакой связи, кроме случайного созвучия. In words where both dialects of Ossetic have a vowel o, the latter certainly (except for later borrowings) goes back to ǎ before nasals, moreover, the nasal one could disappear or assimilate over time; cf. , rox. That is why tox presupposes the forms tomx or tonx from tamx- or tanx in the past, and the latter, taking into account possible metathesis, can go back to taxma- or taxna- from the base tak- move fast, run, rush, dash etc., shown in tæxyn fly, tæx fast moving, taǧd fast (fighting — movement). Cf. taxma- powerful, brave etc., taxma- in the names Taxmaspāda-, Čissataxma-, tahm brave, warlike (also in the names Tahmasp, Arustahm, Aturtahm, Hutahm). An earlier form expected for Digor really exists, but in a slightly different meaning – (public) activity: adæmi tonxi cæwun participate in the flow of people’s life . If our etymology is correct, then there is no connection, except for an accidental consonance between tox fighting and toxun fight, tuxæn torment.
