The root wæcʼ- is connected to vač(a) in vačína, bačína, bacína belly, fat belly ( IV 78, II 159, 161). The suffix -æf is possibly secondary, having appeared under the influence of xæcʼæf leg calf (belly and leg calf are connected by the ideosemantics of thickening).
