Если такого же характера начальный x в , то ærd сближается с ərədva- высокий, arduus крутой, отвесный, высокий, также трудный, orto вверх. Не исключено, что xærd подъем и wyrdyg спуск, заключая один и тот же корень ṛdu, этимологически идентичны; при этом два варианта, ard ṛdu, использованы в полярных значениях. См. , а также . Колебание начального æ | u (wy) — как в ‖ undug, æstur ‖ ustur и др. — Bailey (Saka Dictionary 479) производит от базы har- идти ( xar-, här- и пр.). Но h- перед a в осетинском утрачивается, см. , , , , , и пр. In Ossetic several wards are recognized where the initial vowel is preceded by the prothetic consonant x, something like a hardened spiritus asper; see , , , , . If the initial x in is of the same type, then ærd is close to ərədva- high, arduus steep, precipitous, high, also difficult, orto upwards. It is not exlcuded that xærd the rise and wyrdyg descent, containing the same root ṛdu, are etymologically identical; at the same time both variants, ard ṛdu, are used in opposite meanings. See , and also . The alternation of the initial æu (wy) is as in ‖ undug, æstur ‖ ustur etc. — Bailey (Saka Dictionary 479) derives this word from the stem har- go ( xar-, här- etc.). But h- is lost before a in Ossetic, see , , , , , etc.
