Формант -kʼa — как в sy-kʼa рог, fyr-kʼa барашек, cæw-kʼa козел. The consonant r before i transitioned to l already before the start of the common era ( 214). Therefore, the original form could only be xæræn-kʼa with subsequent vowel fronting a → i (y) before n, as in , , , etc. The reconstructed form xæræn is a nomen instrumenti in -æn ( § 170I 1) from xær- scratch, scrub, see . Therefore, xæræn(kʼa) meant specifically scraper. The formative -kʼa is the same as in sy-kʼa horn, fyr-kʼa little ram, cæw-kʼa baby goat.
