наименованиях, связанных с брачными отношениями, обычны словарные запреты и
эвфемизмы. Так, у осетин муж не называл свою жену <ref type="xr" target="#entry_ūs"/> ‘жена’, а жена мужа <ref type="xr" target="#entry_moj"/> ‘муж’. Возможно, что <hi rendition="#rend_italic">kais</hi> | <hi rendition="#rend_italic">kajes</hi> представляет эвфемизм и образовано
из <hi rendition="#rend_italic">ka</hi> + <hi rendition="#rend_italic">is</hi> | <hi rendition="#rend_italic">ka</hi> + <hi rendition="#rend_italic">es</hi> ‘кто-есть’, т. е. ‘некто’. Ср. образованное
из тех же элементов, но в обратном порядке <ref type="xr" target="#entry_īs-"/>-<ref type="xr" target="#entry_ḱī"/> | <hi rendition="#rend_italic">es-ke</hi> ‘кто-нибудь’, см. <ref type="xr" target="#entry_īsḱī"/>.</etym>
<etym xml:lang="en">Words related to marriage are often unsayable and changed to
euphemisms. Ossetians do not call their wives <ref type="xr" target="#entry_ūs"/> wife, and husbands <ref type="xr" target="#entry_moj"/> husband. It is
probable that <hi rendition="#rend_italic">kais</hi> | <hi rendition="#rend_italic">kajes</hi> is an euphemism, which was formed from <hi rendition="#rend_italic">ka</hi>
+ <hi rendition="#rend_italic">is</hi> | <hi rendition="#rend_italic">ka</hi> + <hi rendition="#rend_italic">es</hi> who-be, i.e. someone. Cf. <ref type="xr" target="#entry_īs-"/>-<ref type="xr" target="#entry_ḱī"/> | <hi rendition="#rend_italic">es-ke</hi>
somebody, formed from the same elements but in reverse order, see <ref type="xr" target="#entry_īsḱī"/>.</etym>
