что материал может получить название по наиболее обычному своему применению или
предназначению. Так, <lang>ос.</lang>

(суффикс <mentioned xml:lang="os"><m>-ag</m></mentioned> указывает на предназначение:

<q>hip</q></ref> may seem weird, as for the semantic part. Let us remember, however,
that the material can be named according to its most common use or purpose. Thus,
<lang>Ossetic</lang>

<q>iron</q></ref> is analyzed as <q rendition="#rend_singlequotes">material (suffix
<mentioned xml:lang="os"><m>-ag</m></mentioned> indicates the purpose: <bibl><ref type="bibl" target="#ref_ГО"/>
<biblScope>§ 168<hi rendition="#rend_subscript">II 2</hi></biblScope></bibl>) for
ploughshare (<ref type="xr" target="#entry_æfsæn"/>)</q>, <mentioned xml:lang="os"><w>ærḱʼiag</w>
<gloss><q>rawhide</q></gloss></mentioned> — like <q rendition="#rend_singlequotes">material for <ref type="xr" target="#entry_ærḱʼī"><emph>ærchi</emph></ref> (highlander
shoes)</q> etc. Therefore, <oRef xml:lang="os-x-iron">sīnag</oRef> | <oRef xml:lang="os-x-digor">sujnag</oRef> meant, actually, <q rendition="#rend_singlequotes">hip cord</q>. For semantic derivation cf. <mentioned xml:lang="ru"><lang/>
<w>gachnik</w> from <w>gachi</w>
<gloss><q>thighs</q>, <q>hips</q></gloss></mentioned>. — <mentioned xml:lang="hu"><lang/>
<w>zsineg</w>, <w>sineg</w>
<gloss><q>cord</q></gloss></mentioned> is a borrowing from Ossetic (Iron)
