<gloss><q>bat</q></gloss> (Digor <oRef xml:lang="os-x-digor">bittir</oRef>), the
former part should be viewed as a fused epithet (cf. similar cases <ref type="xr" target="#entry_syvædæg"/>, <ref type="xr" target="#entry_syǧzærīn"/> etc.). Such an
epithet could be the word <ref type="xr" target="#entry_xælyn_2"><w>xælyn</w>
<gloss><q>thin skin</q>, <q>membrane</q></gloss></ref>: <q rendition="#rend_doublequotes"><mentioned xml:lang="os"><w>byttyr</w></mentioned> with
membrane wings</q> As for <oRef xml:lang="os-x-iron">byttyr</oRef> | <oRef xml:lang="os-x-digor">bittir</oRef>, this is more likely an imitation of the noise of a
bats wings. — <name>Genko</name> connects Ossetic <oRef>byttyr</oRef> to <mentioned xml:lang="inh"><lang/>
<w>burduolg</w>
