<etym xml:lang="ru">Быть может, восходит к *<hi rendition="#rend_italic">vahu</hi>- ‘хороший’ с утратой начального
<hi rendition="#rend_italic">v</hi>-, как в <ref type="xr" target="#entry_ævz-"/>, <ref type="xr" target="#entry_Acyrūxs"/>, <ref type="xr" target="#entry_acamongæ"/> и др.
Иранское <hi rendition="#rend_italic">vahu</hi>- с уверенностью распознается в скифских именах: Βαγδοχος =
*<hi rendition="#rend_italic">baxta</hi>-<hi rendition="#rend_italic">vahu</hi>- и др.
ʒæb-æx [<ref type="xr" target="#entry_ʒæbæx"/>], æx-con [<ref type="xr" target="#entry_æxcon"/>], æx-cul(?) [<ref type="xr" target="#entry_æxcul"/>], xorz-æx(?) [<ref type="xr" target="#entry_xorzæx"/>], fyd-æx(?) [<ref type="xr" target="#entry_fydæx"/>].</etym>
<etym xml:lang="en">Probably, it traces back to *<hi rendition="#rend_italic">vahu</hi>- good with the loss of
the initial <hi rendition="#rend_italic">v</hi>-, like in <ref type="xr" target="#entry_ævz-"/>, <ref type="xr" target="#entry_Acyrūxs"/>, <ref type="xr" target="#entry_acamongæ"/> etc. The <mentioned xml:id="mentioned_d5442e126" xml:lang="ira"><lang/>
<w>vahu-</w></mentioned> is definitely recognized in Scythian names:
Βαγδοχος = *<hi rendition="#rend_italic">baxta</hi>-<hi rendition="#rend_italic">vahu</hi>- etc. (<bibl><ref type="bibl" target="#ref_ОЯФ_I"/><biblScope>160, 186</biblScope></bibl>); so there are all reasons to
suppose that the word existed in Ossetic and could remain in collocations above
and in complex words as well; cf. <hi rendition="#rend_italic">ʒæb-æx</hi> [see <ref type="xr" target="#entry_ʒæbæx"/>], æx-con [see <ref type="xr" target="#entry_æxcon"/>], æx-cul(?) [see <ref type="xr" target="#entry_æxcul"/>], xorz-æx(?) [<ref type="xr" target="#entry_xorzæx"/>], fyd-æx(?) [<ref type="xr" target="#entry_fydæx"/>].</etym>
