second part of compound words like <hi rendition="#rend_italic">mi-gænæn</hi> ‘tool for work (<ref type="xr" target="#entry_mi"/>)’, see <ref type="xr" target="#entry_migænæn"/> etc.,

after which <hi rendition="#rend_italic">gænæn</hi> detached and lexicalized as an independent word. Compare
|
|||
|
|
with <ref type="xr" target="#entry_gæs"/> ‘guard’ in this respect.</etym>
