between Iron and Digor forms. The latter is apparently more archaic, and the

Iron form is the result of metathesis: <hi rendition="#rend_italic">iʒæǧnæ</hi> → *<hi rendition="#rend_italic">yzyǧn</hi> → <hi rendition="#rend_italic">yznyǧ</hi>. If
|

this is so, then the Digor form can be traced to *<hi rendition="#rend_italic">vi-čaga-na</hi> and connected
|
|||
|
|
to the stem <hi rendition="#rend_italic">čag</hi> (<hi rendition="#rend_italic">čak</hi>), which is recognized in <ref type="xr" target="#entry_cæǧdyn"/>, <ref type="xr" target="#entry_iʒæxsun"/> etc. Cf.,
