вполне ясно. Можно думать о наращении <mentioned xml:lang="os"><c>-t</c></mentioned>, как

<gloss><q>копыто</q></gloss>, <ref type="xr" target="#entry_myst"/>
<gloss><q>мышь</q></gloss> и др. (<bibl><ref type="bibl" target="#ref_ОЯФ_I"/>
<biblScope>572</biblScope></bibl>) (со вставкой <c>u</c> между <c>g</c> и <c>t</c>), и,
стало быть, в конечном счете о скрытом множественном числе. Возможно также, что следует
исходить из <mentioned xml:lang="oos"><w type="rec">sākavat-</w>
<gloss><q>рогатый</q></gloss></mentioned> с последующим упрощением <c>-vat</c>
<c>-ut</c>.</etym>

<gloss><q>deer</q></gloss> and, similar to it, goes back to <mentioned xml:lang="oos"><w type="rec">sāka-</w></mentioned>
<gloss><q>horn</q></gloss> with weakening of a vowel in the derivation. The origin of the
formant <m>-ut</m> is not completely clear. One may consider the interfixation of
<mentioned xml:lang="os"><c>-t</c></mentioned> to occur, as in <ref type="xr" target="#entry_sæftæg"/>
<gloss><q>hoof</q></gloss>, <ref type="xr" target="#entry_myst"/>
<gloss><q>mouse</q></gloss> etc. (<bibl><ref type="bibl" target="#ref_ОЯФ_I"/>
<biblScope>572</biblScope></bibl>) (with the insertion of <c>u</c> between <c>g</c> and
<c>t</c>), and, thus, ultimately there's a hidden plural. It is also possible that one
should base the etymology on <mentioned xml:lang="oos"><w type="rec">sākavat-</w>
<gloss><q>horned</q></gloss></mentioned> with a following simplification <c>-vat</c>
