второй части <hi rendition="#rend_smallcaps">Bailеy</hi> готов видеть <ref type="xr" target="#entry_wafs"><w>wafs</w>
<gloss><q>подошва</q></gloss></ref>, что давало бы буквальный смысл <q rendition="#rend_doublequotes">поклонение (твоей) подошве</q> (приводится аналогичное
выражение в сакском). Такой крайний сервилизм в устах вольного горца представляется,
однако, неправдоподобным. Неясно также, почему <ref type="xr" target="#entry_wafs"/> не
стоит здесь в дательном падеже (<ref type="xr" target="#entry_wafs"><w>wafsæn</w></ref>),
как этого требует смысл, а снабжено непонятным окончанием <c>-i</c> (в иронском диалекте
нет падежа, исходящего на <c>-i</c>). Более вероятно, что <oRef>tabuafsi</oRef>, как и
близкое по значению <ref type="xr" target="#entry_eblaǧwæ"><w>eblaǧwæ</w></ref>
(<bibl><ref type="bibl" target="#ref_ИЭС_I"/>
<biblScope>410</biblScope></bibl>), идет целиком из адыгской феодальной среды и отражает
<mentioned xml:lang="kbd"><lang/>
<w>tabu-wa-pśә!</w><gloss><q rendition="#rend_doublequotes">почтение, о

<etym xml:lang="en">The first part is <ref type="xr" target="#entry_tabu"/> (see above). In
the second part <hi rendition="#rend_smallcaps">Bailey</hi> is ready to see <ref type="xr" target="#entry_wafs"><w>wafs</w>
<gloss><q>sole</q></gloss></ref>, which would give a literal meaning <q rendition="#rend_doublequotes">bowing to (your) sole</q> (a similar expression is given
in Saka). Such extreme servility from a free mountaineer seems, however, implausible. It
is also unclear why <ref type="xr" target="#entry_wafs"/> is not in Dative case (<ref type="xr" target="#entry_wafs"><w>wafsæn</w></ref>), as required by the meaning, but
provided with an incomprehensible ending <c>-i</c> (in the Iron dialect there is no case
ending in <c>-i</c>). It is more likely that <oRef>tabuafsi</oRef>, as well as
semantically close <ref type="xr" target="#entry_eblaǧwæ"><w>eblaǧwæ</w></ref> (<bibl><ref type="bibl" target="#ref_ИЭС_I"/>
<biblScope>410</biblScope></bibl>), comes entirely from the Adyghe feudal environment
and reflects <mentioned xml:lang="kbd"><lang/>
<w>tabu-wa-pśә!</w><gloss><q rendition="#rend_doublequotes">my respect, o
prince!</q></gloss></mentioned><lb/>
