‘get tired’, but only with a strong vowel <hi rendition="#rend_italic">а</hi> instead of the weak one <hi rendition="#rend_italic">æ</hi>,

which is found in an existent past participle form: <hi rendition="#rend_italic">fælmæst</hi>. There is often
|
|||
|
|
a strong ablaut grade instead of the weak one in lexicalized past participle
|
|||
|
|
forms; see <ref type="xr" target="#entry_cawd"/> (instead of <hi rendition="#rend_italic">zynd</hi>,
|
|||
|
|
<hi rendition="#rend_italic">amynd</hi>, <hi rendition="#rend_italic">cyd</hi>). The meanings ‘soft’, ‘tender’ is a probable result of the

|
|
semantic contamination with <ref type="xr" target="#entry_fælmæn"/> ‘soft’. See
