<etym xml:lang="ru">Происхождение не известно. В палеонтологическом плане возможна
связь с <ref type="xr" target="#entry_kūryn"/> | <hi rendition="#rend_italic">korūn</hi> ‘просить’; а так как
последнее слово несет следы магической семантики (‘заговор’, ‘заклинание’), то,
может быть, осетинские слова стоят в каких-то древних отношениях с <mentioned corresp="#mentioned_d4624e340" xml:id="mentioned_d4624e306" xml:lang="ru"><lang/>
<w>чур</w>
<gloss><q>запрет</q></gloss></mentioned>, <mentioned corresp="#mentioned_d4624e348" xml:id="mentioned_d4624e314" xml:lang="ru"><w>чуроваться</w>
<gloss><q>делать заговор от чего-либо</q></gloss></mentioned> и пр. Женское
имя Βευραζουρια на надписи IV—V в. из Мцхета (Грузия) имеет осетинский характер
и должно означать „многоречивая“ (<hi rendition="#rend_italic">bewræ</hi>-<hi rendition="#rend_italic">ʒur</hi>-: см. <bibl><ref type="bibl" target="#ref_ОЯФ_I"/><biblScope>159 сл.</biblScope></bibl>). Если так,
то мы получаем terminus ante quem (V в.) для бытования слова <hi rendition="#rend_italic">ʒūryn</hi> в
осетинском. Связь с <ref type="xr" target="#entry_zaryn"/> ‘петь’ (<bibl><ref type="bibl" target="#ref_Миллер_Вс._ОЭ"/><biblScope>II 59, III
145</biblScope></bibl>; <bibl><ref type="bibl" target="#ref_Miller._Gr."/><biblScope>59</biblScope></bibl>)
невозможна по огласовке.</etym>
<etym xml:lang="en">The etymology is not clear. In paleontological terms, there may
be a connection with <ref type="xr" target="#entry_kūryn"/> | <hi rendition="#rend_italic">korūn</hi> ask;
and since the latter word bears traces of magical semantics (conspiracy,
spell), then, perhaps, Ossetic words have some kind of ancient relationship
with <mentioned corresp="#mentioned_d4624e306" xml:id="mentioned_d4624e340" xml:lang="ru"><lang/>
<w>čur</w>
<gloss><q>prohibition</q></gloss></mentioned>, <mentioned corresp="#mentioned_d4624e314" xml:id="mentioned_d4624e348" xml:lang="ru"><w>čurovatʼsja</w>
<gloss><q>make a spell to protect from something</q></gloss></mentioned>
etc. A woman name Βευραζουρια found on an inscription dated 4th5th cc. from
Mtskheta (Georgia) has an Ossetic character and means “talkative”
(<hi rendition="#rend_italic">bewræ</hi>-<hi rendition="#rend_italic">ʒur</hi>-: see <bibl><ref type="bibl" target="#ref_ОЯФ_I"/><biblScope xml:lang="en">159
ff.</biblScope></bibl>). If so, then we get terminus ante quem (V
century) for the existence of the word <hi rendition="#rend_italic">ʒūryn</hi> in Ossetic. The connection with
<ref type="xr" target="#entry_zaryn"/> sing (<bibl><ref type="bibl" target="#ref_Миллер_Вс._ОЭ"/><biblScope>II 59, III
145</biblScope></bibl>; <bibl><ref type="bibl" target="#ref_Miller._Gr."/><biblScope>59</biblScope></bibl>) is impossible because of
vocalization.</etym>
