Слово засвидетельствовано как эпитет некоего кулачного бойца в Тбилиси в начале
XIX в.— <hi rendition="#rend_italic">Dəngər Solomona</hi>, т. е. „Большой Соломон“. Имелся в виду, очевидно,
его большой рост, позволявший ему „биться, стоя на коленях“ (см.:

word is attested as an epithet of a certain fist fighter in Tbilisi at the
beginning of the 19th century - <hi rendition="#rend_italic">Dəngər Solomona</hi>, that is, “Big Solomon”. His
great height was apparently meant, it allowed him to “fight on his knees” (see:
<bibl><author>И. Г ришашвили.</author><biblScope xml:lang="en">Literature Bohemia of an
Old Tbilisi (in Georgian). Tiflis, 1927, p. 32, footenote
4</biblScope></bibl>].</etym>
