<bibl><ref type="bibl" target="#ref_СЕИ"/>
<biblScope>27—29, 129—131</biblScope></bibl>); ср. <mentioned xml:lang="la"><lang/>
<w>serum</w>

<etym xml:lang="en">It is close to <mentioned xml:lang="ce"><lang/>

The antiquity and originality of all dairy terminology among Ossetians (<bibl><ref type="bibl" target="#ref_ОЯФ_I"/>
<biblScope>58</biblScope></bibl>) make it unlikely that this word is borrowed from the
Caucasian languages. It is possible that <lang>Ossetic</lang>
<oRef>seræ</oRef> represents one of the separate Scythian-Latin isoglosses (see:
<bibl><ref type="bibl" target="#ref_СЕИ"/>
<biblScope>27—29, 129—131</biblScope></bibl>); cf. <mentioned xml:lang="la"><lang/>
<w>serum</w>
<gloss><q>milk whey</q></gloss></mentioned>. In this case <mentioned xml:lang="ce"><lang/>
<w>šer-</w></mentioned> should be seen as a borrowing from Ossetic.</etym>
