буквально <q rendition="#rend_doublequotes">роговой сосок</q>. Первоначально соска
делалась из рога; со временем это название было перенесено и на резиновую соску. Ср. по
образованию <mentioned xml:lang="kv"><lang/>
<w>śurnoj</w>
<gloss><q>соска</q></gloss></mentioned> из <mentioned xml:lang="kv"><w>śur</w>
<gloss><q>рог</q></gloss></mentioned> и <mentioned xml:lang="kv"><w>ńoj</w>
<gloss><q>сосок</q></gloss></mentioned>. Случаи, когда слово сохраняет наименование
старого материала, из которого когда-то делался предмет, нередки; ср. <ref type="xr" target="#entry_zævætdūr"><w>zævætdūr</w>

literally <q rendition="#rend_doublequotes">horn pacifier</q>. The nipple was originally
made from horn; over time, this name was transferred to the rubber pacifier.
Derivationally, compare to <mentioned xml:lang="kv"><lang/>
<w>śurnoj</w>
<gloss><q>pacifier</q></gloss></mentioned> from <mentioned xml:lang="kv"><w>śur</w>
<gloss><q>horn</q></gloss></mentioned> and <mentioned xml:lang="kv"><w>ńoj</w>
<gloss><q>nipple</q></gloss></mentioned>. Cases where the word retains the name of the
old material from which the object was once made are not uncommon; cf. <ref type="xr" target="#entry_zævætdūr"><w>zævætdūr</w>
<gloss><q>mill thrust bearing</q></gloss>, <gloss><q rendition="#rend_doublequotes">heel
