свой<hi rendition="#rend_italic"> m</hi> с начальным <hi rendition="#rend_italic">w</hi> глагола (<hi rendition="#rend_italic">æm</hi>-<hi rendition="#rend_italic">wajyn</hi><hi rendition="#rend_italic">æwwajyn</hi>) Такую же
ассимиляцию находим в kowwaʒæn (<ref type="xr" target="#entry_kwaʒæn"/>) из
<hi rendition="#rend_italic">kom</hi>-<hi rendition="#rend_italic">waʒæn</hi> ‘разговенье’.

<mentioned corresp="#mentioned_d4662e273" xml:id="mentioned_d4662e182" xml:lang="sog"><lang/>

<etym xml:lang="en">It is evident that it is the fusion of the verb <hi rendition="#rend_italic">waj</hi>- with
some preverb. But which preverb? Implicitly, only preverb <ref type="xr" target="#entry_æm-"/>is appropriate here: <hi rendition="#rend_italic">æmwajyn</hi> to contract, to
shrinkto shrink. So we assume that, like in verbs <ref type="xr" target="#entry_æwwændyn"/> to trust', <ref type="xr" target="#entry_æwwærdyn"/> to rumple, <ref type="xr" target="#entry_æwwīlyn"/> to chew there is the preverb. <ref type="xr" target="#entry_æm-"/>, which consonant <hi rendition="#rend_italic">m</hi> assimilates with the initial
<hi rendition="#rend_italic">w</hi> of the verb (<hi rendition="#rend_italic">æm</hi>-<hi rendition="#rend_italic">wajyn</hi><hi rendition="#rend_italic">æwwajyn</hi>). The same assimilation is
found in <hi rendition="#rend_italic">kowwaʒæn</hi> (<ref type="xr" target="#entry_kwaʒæn"/>) from
<hi rendition="#rend_italic">kom</hi>-<hi rendition="#rend_italic">waʒæn</hi> first meal after fast. Cf. the same verb with another
preverb: <ref type="xr" target="#entry_rwajyn"/> to shrink, to shrivel, to
wither. As for the root <hi rendition="#rend_italic">wuj</hi>-, it should be identified not with <hi rendition="#rend_italic">waj</hi>- to
