осетинском фольклоре. В одном сказании кленовый лист становится мстителем за совершенное
злодеяние (мотив <q rendition="#rend_doublequotes">Ивиковых журавлей</q>
<emph>Шиллера</emph>: природа на страже справедливости). Сказание известно в нескольких
вариантах. Привожу вариант, записанный 5 июля 1953 г. от моей матери Нины Абаевой: </note>

Ossetian folklore. In one tale a maple leaf becomes an avenger for a committed evil deed
(<emph>Schiller's</emph>

justice). The tale is known in several versions. I cite a variant recorded July 5, 1953
from my mother Nina Abaeva: </note>

встретились разбойники и отняли у него лошадь. Напрасно он умолял их, говоря: „Моя
жизнь — от этой лошади, не погубите же меня". Те его и не слушали. Тогда бедняк
огляделся вокруг, но нигде даже птичка не шевелилась. Только у дороги среди поля
стоял одинокий большой клен. И бедняк крикнул к дереву: <q>Ты будь свидетелем

разбойник сел на коня, которого он отнял у бедняка, и отправился в путь. И Бог
привел его к сакле того бедняка, которого он ограбил, и он там остановился как
гость. Бедняк оказал ему доброе гостеприимство. Когда они сели за ужин, внезапно
поднялся такой ветер, такой ветер, что сакля зашаталась (как говорят, <q>крутящийся
ветер, кутающая буря</q>). И ветер распахнул дверь, и оттуда кружась влетел
кленовый лист и упал прямо в кубок гостя. Человек побледнел и только крикнул:
<q>Боже, боже! теперь пришел час моей гибели!</q> — и замертво свалился перед <ref type="xr" target="#entry_fyng">фингом</ref> (треногим столиком). Тогда узнал его
бедняк, и перед его глазами предстал клен среди поля, который он призвал в свидетели
(совершенного над ним) злодейства…</q>

the road in the middle of the field stood a lonely big maple. And the poor man cried
out to the tree: <q>You be a witness to the (committed against me) evil deed!</q>.

stayed there as a guest. The poor man gave him kind hospitality. As they sat down to
supper, suddenly there came up such a wind, such a wind, that the hut staggered (as
they say, <q>a twisting wind, a waddling storm</q>). And the wind opened the door,
and from there a maple leaf flew swirling and fell right into the guest's goblet.
The man went pale and only shouted: <q>My God, my God! Now the hour of my doom has
come! </q> — and collapsed dead in front of the <ref type="xr" target="#entry_fyng">fing</ref> (tripod table). Then the poor man recognized him,
and before his eyes appeared a maple tree in the field, which he called to witness
(his) atrocity…</q>
