<etym xml:lang="ru">Из <hi rendition="#rend_italic">fæs-cæw-īn</hi> буквально
„идущий сзади“; см. <ref type="xr" target="#entry_fæs-"/> ‘позади’ и <ref type="xr" target="#entry_cæwyn"/> ‘идти’. Для идеосемантики ср. <mentioned corresp="#mentioned_d63e194" xml:id="mentioned_d63e165" xml:lang="la"><lang/>

<gloss><q>следующий позади’ = ‘слуга</q></gloss></mentioned> (<bibl><ref type="bibl" target="#ref_Walde"/><biblScope>569</biblScope></bibl>).
Суффикс <hi rendition="#rend_italic">-īn</hi> | <hi rendition="#rend_italic">-īnæ</hi> находим еще в нескольких отглагольных именах со значением
‘постоянно занимающийся чем-либо’: <ref type="xr" target="#entry_æmʒærīn"/>
(←<hi rendition="#rend_italic">æm-cær-īn</hi>) ‘сожитель’, д. <ref type="xr" target="#entry_ænxætīnæ"/> (←<hi rendition="#rend_italic">æm-xæt-īnæ</hi>)
‘вместе скитающийся’, <ref type="xr" target="#entry_æm-"><lang/>
<w>ænbadīnæ</w>
<gloss><q>вместе сидящий</q></gloss></ref> и др. По-видимому, наличие
приставки при глаголе (<ref type="xr" target="#entry_æm-"/>) является одним из
условий употребления этого суффикса.</etym>
<etym xml:lang="en">From <hi rendition="#rend_italic">fæs-cæw-īn</hi> literally
going behind; see <ref type="xr" target="#entry_fæs-"/> behind and <ref type="xr" target="#entry_cæwyn"/> go. As for the ideosemantics, cf.
<mentioned corresp="#mentioned_d63e165" xml:id="mentioned_d63e194" xml:lang="la"><lang/>
<w>pedisequus</w>
<gloss><q>going behind = servant</q></gloss></mentioned> (<bibl><ref type="bibl" target="#ref_Walde"/><biblScope>569</biblScope></bibl>). The
suffix <hi rendition="#rend_italic">-īn</hi> | <hi rendition="#rend_italic">-īnæ</hi> is also found in some deverbal nouns with the meaning constantly
doing something: <ref type="xr" target="#entry_æmʒærīn"/> (←<hi rendition="#rend_italic">æm-cær-īn</hi>) room-mate, Digor <ref type="xr" target="#entry_ænxætīnæ"/> (←<hi rendition="#rend_italic">æm-xæt-īnæ</hi>)
wandering together, <ref type="xr" target="#entry_æm-"><lang/>
<w>ænbadīnæ</w>
<gloss><q>sitting together</q></gloss></ref> etc. Apparently, the prefix
attached to the verb (<ref type="xr" target="#entry_æm-"/>) is one of the
conditions for the use of this suffix.</etym>
