According to <bibl><ref type="bibl" target="#ref_Макалатия"/>
<biblScope>(71)</biblScope></bibl>, mountain Georgians (Mtiulians) borrowed this
churning butter technique, to which the term <mentioned xml:lang="ka-x-mtiul"><w>sera</w></mentioned> is inextricably connected, from their neighbors, the Ossetians
of the Ksani Gorge. As for North Iranian people, this technique is attested there from
ancient times (see: <bibl><ref type="bibl" target="#ref_ИЭС_I"/>
<biblScope>290</biblScope></bibl> under ther word <ref type="xr" target="#entry_carv"><w>carv</w>
<q>butter</q></ref>, — <name>Herodotus</name> and <name>Hippocrates</name> messages).
This makes it possible that the term <oRef>sera</oRef> has entered into Georgian dialects
from Ossetian neighbors.</etym>
