формах глагола <w type="rec">tær-</w>, <mentioned xml:lang="ine"><lang/>
<w>*ter-</w> со значением <gloss><q>губить</q>, <q>гибнуть</q></gloss></mentioned>. Это
значение выступает, в частности, в <mentioned xml:lang="ru"><lang/>
<w>терять</w></mentioned>, <mentioned xml:lang="ru"><w>тратить</w></mentioned>,
<mentioned xml:lang="ru"><w>травить</w></mentioned>, <mentioned xml:lang="ru"><w>отрава</w></mentioned>, <mentioned xml:lang="ru"><w>потрава</w></mentioned> и др.

<w>*ter-</w> not preserved in other forms, with the meaning <gloss><q>to ruin</q>, <q>to
perish</q></gloss></mentioned>. This meaning appears, in particular, in <mentioned xml:lang="ru"><lang/>
<w>terjatʼ</w></mentioned>, <mentioned xml:lang="ru"><w>tratitʼ</w></mentioned>,
<mentioned xml:lang="ru"><w>travitʼ</w></mentioned>, <mentioned xml:lang="ru"><w>otrava</w></mentioned>, <mentioned xml:lang="ru"><w>potrava</w></mentioned>, etc.
If this is true, then <oRef>tæraj</oRef> actually means <gloss><q rendition="#rend_doublequotes">may you perish</q></gloss>. Cf. <ref type="xr" target="#entry_sæfyn"><w>fesæfaj</w></ref>, <ref type="xr" target="#entry_stʼælyn"><w>bastælaj</w></ref> of the same meaning.</etym>
