(ушками)“. См. <ref type="xr" target="#entry_cæg"/> ‘кольцо’ и <ref type="xr" target="#entry_ag"/> ‘котел’; <hi rendition="#rend_italic">ǵyn</hi> — суффикс, выражающий наделенность
|
||
чем-либо. Появление <hi rendition="#rend_italic">i</hi> вместо <hi rendition="#rend_italic">у</hi> закономерно: когда было утрачено
|
||
осознание отдельных частей и слово стало восприниматься как цельное, стал
|
||
действовать закон о появлении перед носовыми и плавными последнего слога <hi rendition="#rend_italic">j</hi>:
|
||
<hi rendition="#rend_italic">cæǵǵynag</hi> → <hi rendition="#rend_italic">cæǵgyjnag</hi> (ср. <ref type="xr" target="#entry_cwajnag"/> из
|
||
<hi rendition="#rend_italic">cwan-ag</hi> ‘чугунный котел’); в дальнейшем дифтонг <hi rendition="#rend_italic">yj</hi> закономерно слился с
|
||
<hi rendition="#rend_italic">i</hi> (ср. <ref type="xr" target="#entry_xærīnag"/> ‘пища’ из <hi rendition="#rend_italic">xæryn-ag</hi>,
|
||
<hi rendition="#rend_italic">xæryjnag</hi> и мн. др.). Древность самого предмета бесспорна. „Из металлической
|
||
посуды местного производства характерными являются большие бронзовые литые котлы
|
||
с двумя ручками на высоком поддоне. Они встречаются как в курганах скифского
|
||

<etym xml:lang="en">From <hi rendition="#rend_italic">cæg-ǵyn ag</hi>, literally “kettle provided with handles
|
||
(little ears)”. See <ref type="xr" target="#entry_cæg"/> ‘ring’ and <ref type="xr" target="#entry_ag"/> ‘kettle’; <hi rendition="#rend_italic">ǵyn</hi> is a suffix meaning the
|
||
endowment with something. The appearance of <hi rendition="#rend_italic">i</hi> instead of <hi rendition="#rend_italic">у</hi> is regular:
|
||
when the awareness of individual parts was lost and the word began to be
|
||
perceived as a whole, there began to act the law of the appearance of <hi rendition="#rend_italic">j</hi> in
|
||
the last syllable in front of nasal and glide consonants: <hi rendition="#rend_italic">cæǵǵynag</hi> →
|
||
<hi rendition="#rend_italic">cæǵgyjnag</hi> (cf. <ref type="xr" target="#entry_cwajnag"/> from <hi rendition="#rend_italic">cwan-ag</hi>
|
||
‘cast iron kettle’); further the diphthong <hi rendition="#rend_italic">yj</hi> regularly merged with <hi rendition="#rend_italic">i</hi>
|
||
(cf. <ref type="xr" target="#entry_xærīnag"/> ‘food’ from <hi rendition="#rend_italic">xæryn-ag</hi>,
|
||
<hi rendition="#rend_italic">xæryjnag</hi> and many other). The ancient origin of the object itself is
|
||
doubtless. “Typical of local metal dishes are large cast bronze kettles with two
|
||
handles on a high base. They are found both in the mounds of the Scythian time,
|
||
