125</biblScope></bibl>) присоединяется к 1-и этимологии Миллера (<hi rendition="#rend_italic">ʒæxs-</hi>
из <hi rendition="#rend_italic">čaxš-</hi>). <hi rendition="#rend_smallcaps">Benveniste</hi> (<bibl><ref type="bibl" target="#ref_BSL"/><biblScope>LII 32</biblScope></bibl>) сопоставляет с <mentioned corresp="#mentioned_d5215e451" xml:id="mentioned_d5215e375" xml:lang="ae"><lang/>

<etym xml:lang="en">The initial <hi rendition="#rend_italic">fæ-</hi>, as in some other cases, is a contracted
preverb (= <mentioned corresp="#mentioned_d5215e321" xml:id="mentioned_d5215e397" xml:lang="x-oldirn"><lang/>
<w>pati</w></mentioned>). For the stem <hi rendition="#rend_italic">ʒæxs-</hi> Ws. <hi rendition="#rend_smallcaps">Miller</hi> gives two
different etymologies in the same word: 1. <hi rendition="#rend_italic">ʒæxs-</hi> corresponds to <mentioned corresp="#mentioned_d5215e326" xml:id="mentioned_d5215e402" xml:lang="inc-x-old"><lang/>
<w>čakṣ-</w>
<gloss><q>tell</q></gloss></mentioned>, <mentioned corresp="#mentioned_d5215e334" xml:id="mentioned_d5215e410" xml:lang="inc-x-old"><w/>

<hi rendition="#rend_italic">fæʒæxsyn</hi> is from <hi rendition="#rend_italic">fæt-zæxsyn</hi> and it is connected with <ref type="xr" target="#entry_zæǧyn"/> tell (<bibl><ref type="bibl" target="#ref_Miller._Gr."/><biblScope>64</biblScope></bibl>). Н. W.
<hi rendition="#rend_smallcaps">Ваilеy</hi> (<bibl><ref type="bibl" target="#ref_Bailey._Asica"/><biblScope>37</biblScope></bibl>) suggests the second Miller's
etymology (<hi rendition="#rend_italic">fæʒæxs-</hi><hi rendition="#rend_italic">fæ-zæǧ-s</hi>), but independently of him (Miller is not
cited), however, in the other work (<bibl><biblScope>Irano-Indica
II</biblScope></bibl>, <bibl><ref type="bibl" target="#ref_BSOAS"/><biblScope>1949 XIII 125</biblScope></bibl>) he joins the first
Miller's etymology (<hi rendition="#rend_italic">ʒæxs-</hi> is from <hi rendition="#rend_italic">čaxš-</hi>). <hi rendition="#rend_smallcaps">Benveniste</hi> (<bibl><ref type="bibl" target="#ref_BSL"/><biblScope>LII 32</biblScope></bibl>)
compares it with <mentioned corresp="#mentioned_d5215e375" xml:id="mentioned_d5215e451" xml:lang="ae"><lang/>
<w>čaxsa-</w></mentioned>, a perfective stem <mentioned corresp="#mentioned_d5215e380" xml:id="mentioned_d5215e456" xml:lang="ae"><lang/>
