<hi rendition="#rend_italic">gon</hi> — суффикс, означающий ‘около’: <ref type="xr" target="#entry_don"/>-<hi rendition="#rend_italic">gon</hi> у реки’, <hi rendition="#rend_italic">bil-gon</hi> у берега и т. п. Наращение <hi rendition="#rend_italic">-d</hi> произошло
по ассоциации с <hi rendition="#rend_italic">-gond</hi> (из <hi rendition="#rend_italic">kond</hi>, ppf. от <ref type="xr" target="#entry_kænyn"/> ‘делать’), употребительным во второй части сложных
слов.</etym>

where <hi rendition="#rend_italic">gon</hi> is a suffix, which means near: <ref type="xr" target="#entry_don"/>-<hi rendition="#rend_italic">gon</hi> near the river, <hi rendition="#rend_italic">bil-gon</hi> near the river
bank etc. The <hi rendition="#rend_italic">-d</hi> augmentation happened via the association with <hi rendition="#rend_italic">-gond</hi>
(from <hi rendition="#rend_italic">kond</hi>, ppf. of <ref type="xr" target="#entry_kænyn"/> do), which is
widespread in the second part of compound words.</etym>
