the initial voiceless consonant (<hirendition="#rend_italic">ter</hi>-, <hirendition="#rend_italic">terg</hi>-), as it is attested in,
e.g. <mentionedcorresp="#mentioned_d1016e223"xml:id="mentioned_d1016e385"xml:lang="ru"><lang/>
<w>teretʼ</w><notetype="comment"xml:lang="en">and</note></mentioned>, <mentionedcorresp="#mentioned_d1016e230"xml:id="mentioned_d1016e392"xml:lang="ru"><w>terzatʼ</w></mentioned>. There are no regular correspondences for
the stem <hirendition="#rend_italic">darg</hi>- in other Aryan languages; probably <mentionedxml:id="mentioned_d1016e395"xml:lang="xco"><lang/>
<w>waδažaya- (←*ava-darzaya-)</w>

vocalization <hirendition="#rend_italic">i</hi> in Digor is secondary, cf. <reftype="xr"target="#entry_xærynkʼa"/> | <hirendition="#rend_italic">xirinkʽa</hi>‘little knife’, <reftype="xr"target="#entry_æntʼæryn"/> | <hirendition="#rend_italic">æntʽirun</hi>‘to pursue’, <reftype="xr"target="#entry_læǧz"/> | <hirendition="#rend_italic">liǧz</hi>‘smooth’, <reftype="xr"target="#entry_læxstæ"/> | <hirendition="#rend_italic">lixstæ</hi>‘prayer’, <reftype="xr"target="#entry_ægærid"/> | <hirendition="#rend_italic">ægirid</hi>‘quite’. The meaning 'to devour' is
