индоевропейскую базу <hi rendition="#rend_italic">*bherǵh-</hi> ‘беречь’, ‘хранить’, которая распознается

|||

также в <ref type="xr" target="#entry_æmbærzyn"/> (← <hi rendition="#rend_italic">*ham-barz-</hi>)
|
|||
|
|
‘покрывать’. Падежное управление (не „кому что“, а „кого чем“) указывает на
|
|||
|
|
семантику, близкую к русскому „обнадеживать“. Именно такое развитие получило
|
|||
|
|
и.е. <hi rendition="#rend_italic">*bherǵh-</hi> и на германской почве, где наряду с <hi rendition="#rend_italic">berg-</hi> ‘скрывать’,
|
|||
|
|
‘прятать’ имеем <hi rendition="#rend_italic">borg-</hi> ‘гарантировать’, ‘обеспечивать’, ‘ручаться’.
|

<etym xml:lang="en">Probably it traces back to Iranian <hi rendition="#rend_italic">*vi-barz-</hi> and includes
|
|||
|
|
the same Indo-European stem <hi rendition="#rend_italic">*bherǵh-</hi> ‘to take care of’, ‘to keep’, which is
|
|||
|
|
also recognized in <ref type="xr" target="#entry_æmbærzyn"/> (← <hi rendition="#rend_italic">*ham-barz-</hi>)
|
|||
|
|
‘to cover’. The case government (not „to whom what“, but „whom by what“)
|
|||
|
|
indicates the semantics close to Russian <hi rendition="#rend_italic">обнадеживать</hi> ‘to give hope’. The
|
|||
|
|
same evolution is attested in Indo-European <hi rendition="#rend_italic">*bherǵh-</hi> and in Germanic
|
|||
|
|
languages, where there is <hi rendition="#rend_italic">borg-</hi> ‘to guarntee’, ‘to support’, ‘to warrant’
|
|||
|
|
along with <hi rendition="#rend_italic">berg-</hi> ‘to conceal’, ‘to hide’. See Slavic correspondences under
