поселения. На территории, населенной в прошлом аланами, многие местности носят
|
||
до сих пор название <hi rendition="#rend_italic">Doǧwat</hi>. Из них лично нам известно урочище <hi rendition="#rend_italic">Doǧwat</hi> в
|
||
горной Кабарде, представляющее большое ровное поле, вполне пригодное для
|
||
джигитовки. Роль конских ристаний в аланском быту ярко выступает также в
|
||
нартовском эпосе, где <hi rendition="#rend_italic">dūǧwat</hi> или <mentioned corresp="#mentioned_d263e122" xml:id="mentioned_d263e98" xml:lang="os"><lang/>
|
||
<w>qazæn fæz</w></mentioned> — это то место, где почти целиком проводят свой
|
||
досуг нартовские герои. С этим согласуются исторические известия об аланах,
|
||
рисующие их как воинов-конников, которые „всего больше дорожат конями“, „с
|
||
детства приучаются к верховой езде и считают позором ходить пешком“
|
||

equestrian arena was an obligatory accessory to every large Alan settlement. In
|
||
the territory that was inhabited by the Alans in past times, many areas are
|
||
still called <hi rendition="#rend_italic">Doǧwat</hi>. Among these, we personally know the tract <hi rendition="#rend_italic">Doǧtwat</hi>
|
||
in the mountain Kabarda, which is a large flat field, quite suitable for horse
|
||
riding. The role of horse races in Alan life is also vividly shown in the Nart
|
||
epics where <hi rendition="#rend_italic">dūǧwat</hi> or <mentioned corresp="#mentioned_d263e98" xml:id="mentioned_d263e122" xml:lang="os"><lang/>
|

<w>qazæn fæz</w></mentioned> is the place where Nart heroes spend almost all
|
||
their free time. This corresponds the historical information about the Alans,
|
||
depicting them as horse-drawn warriors, who “value horses most of all”, “they
|
||
are accustomed to riding from childhood and consider walking by feet a shame”
|
||
(<bibl><author>Ammianus Marcellinus</author></bibl>). See also the word
